Marvel + Netflix = 4 New Shows

Disney just signed a deal with Nflix to bring four shows, each centered around a different hero. Each hero will get one season, culminating with a miniseries about The Defenders! Theeey are, well, think of them as The Avengers B Team (haha). Since I’m assuming a lot of people won’t know who these people are I thought I’d help you out…

Show 1: Daredevil
Remember that really cheesy movie Ben Affleck made with Marvel. The only good thing to come of it was the discovery of the band Evanescence.
Show 2: Jessica Jones
I see this as Marvel saying to DC; “see, a heroine can have a starring role” haha! Her powers are pretty basic; flying and strength. But she’s interesting because she quit being a hero to become a detective and is married to our next character…
Show 3: Luke Cage
This guy played a big role in the opening stages of the comicbook event “Civil War”. Thing homeboy that gets kidnapped, experimented on, and now has invincible skin. He’s always teamed up with Captain America, but never really on his own…this should be cool!
Show 4: Iron Fist
Get this; dude double punches the heart of a dragon and absorbs it’s powers!!! So now not only is he a martial arts master, he’s super fast, strong, can sense things no one else can, and can focus his chi into straight up energy!

I don’t know much about the Defenders. First is on them, Cage is on the Avengers, Jones is a New Avenger, and Daredevil always does his own thing…so…it’ll be cool to see how Marvel will tie this into their movie line.

SDCC’13: AVENGERS2 UPDATE
:: And there it is folks! Joss Whedon just announced that Avengers2 will be titled “Age of Ultron”This opens up a whole new can of worms for me. First; this explains how the Ant Man movie ties in. Second; what about Thanos? Is he the big BIG bad guy that comes in #3? Third; is this just leaching off the most recent Marvel Comics event in an attempt to cut down on writing/time/effort?
What are your thoughts???

1. STARWARS STANDALONE FILMS [/Film]
Disney has confirmed that aside from the release of EpisodeVII they will release several movies based on solo characters, the first of which will be Yoda. If this is another “CloneWarsCGI” movie, I’m okay with it.

2. DIGIMON REBOOT [FilmThrasher.com]
Not only has Nickalodeon picked up the series, but this 6th season is being called a remake!

3. MAJOR MARVEL MOVIE SPOILERS!!!
News/rumors on the 3 wave of movies is already being released, which undoubtedly gives away plots to the 2nd wave which is only starting (w/ IronMan3) this year…watch at your own risk!!!

TOP5 SUMMER MOVIES [2012]

5. PREMIUM RUSH

I just explained in my review of this why I love it so much.
Read it [here]

4. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

I started the summer loathing the idea ofanotherreboot, but found myself seeing this movie twice, a pleasant surprise!
3. PROMETHEUS

I was looking forward to this movie for well over a year, planned a whole mini-road trip with friends for opening night, and saw it 2 more times in theaters after that!
2. THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

It’s the friggin end to the legendary Nolan trilogy…
1. THE AVENGERS

This takes the top spot solely for it’s ability to allow me the pleasure of escaping reality for a few moments to fall back into my childhood. I saw it multiple times, played the stupid game on Fbook, read the fanfiction, and am very excited for the upcoming TV show, and ran Marvel movie marathons in celebration before and after it’s release.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE SUMMER MOVIE OF 2012?

MARVEL HEROES: First Official Trailer

Finally something concrete on the upcoming Diablo-style MMO from my favorite comicbook franchise! At first I heard rumors that this would be a full open-world sandbox style MMORPG (in the shadow of WoW) but I think since the overrated success of StarWars:TOR studios are realizing it’s better to try something new rather than battle a giant.
Now I’ll have to quickly play through Ultimate Alliance 2 to get myself up to speed; it looks like this will be the same style of game, following the escapades of the Teseract…the powerful cube we’re introduced to from the movies. Cross-media storytelling is my favorite!

AVENGERS [movie] Review
*SPOILER ALERT*
This should have come out on Saturday (when I saw it) but I just moved and don’t have internet at home :/SO, after 5 years of hype…was it worth it?     YES!
Thank you Mr Whedon; thank you for appreciating the fact that regardless of how much Hollywood wants to make, WE the fanboys and geeks of the world have been waiting for this movie since we were children. If that didn’t make sense…the movie is good, great even. It’s far better than any of the Marvel movies leading up to it. Not that they were bad, but this is definitely the best portrayal of the characters themselves. For example; Thor felt a little too cheesy, and Hulk had just…so many problems. You can definitely tell that Whedon (a fan of comics and continuity) was able to force his hand on certain subjects pertaining to the geekiness of this flick. Overall the flow of the film was perfect, going from realization and introduction to formation and problem solving smoothly while keeping me entertained.
DID YOU WATCH TIL THE END OF BOTH CREDITS???Who was the purple guy smiling at at the end: His name is Thanos, and he’s the baddest of the bad in the Marvel universe. What does this mean for the Avenger movies…that they’re only going to get bigger, and possibly involve some crossovers! Also the Shwarma scene at the very very end: perfect!
This movie had the right amount of humor, action, suspense, drama, and that awkward tension between main characters that only Whedon seems to be able to create.
Do you need to see previous Marvel movies before this? Yes.
My favorite scene? The NY final battle! When I was a child I dreamed of what it would be like to see my favorite comic heroes in real life, and this delivered that beautifully. I was in awe when Cap started barking orders to Hawkeye and IronMan. My childhood was pleased.
My thoughts on the villains? I hate Loki, he’s friggin annoying. But that’s perfect when dealing with a storyline like this, so it works. However I really hope they use the pure brutality of Thanos to deliver an enemy who can put up a fight in then next movie.
My favorite hero? It ended up being Thor, and that surprised me! Iron Man was my favorite character in the solo movies, and Captain America was my favorite film out of the bunch, but Thor delivered a really strong character to the Avengers story. 2nd place goes to Black Widow…Scar Jo will always have a place in my heart ;) haha
I could go on and on, so leave your thoughts in comments/replies/messages so we can keep the conversation going!

THE HULK: From Comics to Movies
Who’s sick of studios constantly switching out actors in sequels? It takes away from the vibe and (for me at least) forces me to reissue myself into the universe the Director is trying to portray on screen. For example; Rhodey in IronMan1+2 are two completely different friends of Tony who just happen to have the same name…
The prime example of this is Bruce Banner/Hulk. Whatever your outlook on the three iterations are, they ARE connected…they have to be in order to make the Avengers movie work. The argument of sequel/reboot isn’t what’s important to me though, it’s the question “who fits the role better”.
Checkout the picture at the top, which is taken straight from the comics. You can see Bruce is a skinny, nerdy, pale skinned - whispy haired man who turns into a brawny (pulpy is the word I keep thinking) green monster.
Bruce: Just look at the faces. While Norton looks most like Banner, I think Bana fit the overall look and feel of the scientist. While Ruffalo doesn’t look anything like him…like…what were they thinking for the Avengers???Hulk: Take the head of #1 with the detail of #2 on the body of #3. I see that they were trying to put a bit of the actors into the monster with the CGI, but none of them came as close as the first. Also, “Incredible” was the only movie to really get the chaotic nature of him down.
In the end I think they need to just pick one and stick with it. I don’t care who, but continuity is key if they want the “Avengers” to be a lasting success. What are YOUR thoughts?

THE AVENGERS [trailer] First Official

Well that was fast!
The soundtrack…perfect
Shots of entire streets blowing up…perfect
The epic closeups of our heroes dawning their weapons…perfect
Not knowing exactly what the plot is…good I guess but it’s driving me crazy! I mean what the heck is Loki up to, how could that one guy take on the Avengers?
And that final scene with Banner and Stark is so “oh hey we know this is the third guy to play the Hulk and you probably don’t know who he is, so here is a little banter to help catch you up”
