1. R.I.P. LUCASARTS [ComingSoon.net]
Looks like Disney’s second move, after buying StarWars, was to shut down the videogame side of the company. So now, instead of creating their own games, they’re going to have other studios come in while LA takes on more of a Producers role?

2. COULSON LIVES [IGN Video]
Lots of details pertaining to the resurrection of Marvels beloved Agent of SHIELD, and how the show will be taking place after Avengers1.

3. MARVEL PHASE 2+3 UPDATES
Guardians of the Galaxy [Concept Art]
Captain America: Winter Soldier [New Character]

R.I.P. SHANNON LARRATT [1973-2013]
Anyone that bumps into me on the street can tell that body modification plays a small role in my life. And anyone that has known me for a significant amount of time knows that my connection to it is more than what’s just on the surface…While I’ve only made “generic” changes to my physical self (tattoos, stretched ears, regular piercings, etc) and while some of those changes might have humorous stories behind them, the purpose and drive behind everything I’ve done stems from from this man…in a way.
Not to get all “tribal” or whatever, I’ll just keep it short by saying that I change my outward-self to reflect my inner-self. A teaching I learned long before becoming a Christian - long before making my actions and words a reflection of my beliefs.
If you didn’t know, Shannon was the creator of BME, the biggest body modification website/resource out there. He pioneered what many would call crazy, and helped little guys like me through those first questionable steps. In a time when I wanted to learn more about myself, the community he started was there to help. While my life has taken me in a different direction, his positive outlook on life and overall way of living has stayed with me…
“The fundamental question in becoming publicly modified is a question of finding a balance between how free you want to be and how hard you want to work. The more free you are, the more responsibility you have to take care of yourself. The more you blend back into the crowd, the less freedom you have, but the ‘easier’ life gets. But is it really your life if you’re not controlling it?”
I think more than ever that message can ring truth into young people wanting to latch onto the heavily tattooed/pierced craze.
Life is short, live it. Thank you, you’ll be missed.

1. RIP CANADIAN PENNY [TheProvince.com]
Today marks the first official day of the penny’s demise. What are you going to do with your leftovers?

2. KING RICHARD III FOUND! [LAtimes]
Yup, you know that King that you read about? Turns out his bones were found underneath a parking lot. More accurately the site where an ancient church once stood, is now buried under our feet…creepy…

3. KAYAPO UNDER SIEGE [Official]
This has been floating around a lot, and I don’t know ALL the details, but I know rather than say nothing I’ll keep the conversation going and hopefully truth is found and help is given…

4. HALO ON STEAM? [IGN.com]
Apparently Valve has registered for three Halo titles to become a part of the Steam community. While last week it was reported that this meant the games were finally coming to PC, now it’s going back to just a strong rumor (would be a sweet one!)

R.I.P. NINTENDO POWER
∆ The final issue of this iconic magazine will be printed for December 2012. It’s a sad day for a guy like me, who grew up with the weekend routine of running to the local library, after Saturday morning cartoons, to learn about the newest games. This was pre-internet, when the only way to get previews of new games was to pick up a zine. There were no trailers, new leaked info, and no need to worry about spoiler alerts. Each issue would have cheats/tricks for the games you loved, a sneak peak at games to come, and killer poster featuring that months start character! I guess this is a perfect example of the changing ways of technology. If even the most influential gamer-mag is forced to close it’s pages, it’s a good indication that eBooks are here to stay. It does look like they’ll be keeping back issues available for sale online, and I’ve heard rumors of possible new issues coming out for tablets…here’s hoping.

LMFAO have split up!!!

My day just went from good to stupendous :D Even though they technically said they “just want to do what’s natural” I have faith that the natural order of life is to not have their trash in my ears ever again…

R.I.P. SCARLET HALOIt’s with a heavy heart that I post this…but I know that these guys have their heads on straight. I remember going to one of the first SH shows, with my buddies in Endless Fight, and freaking out over how a highschool band from MB could be that good! My friends and I have always thought, that if a group of local musicians were to ever deserve a record contract, it’d be these guys. Bands these days don’t work as hard as they have, or show has much heart as they do. They have been such an inspiration to not just the metal scene, but to many different bands and promoters such as myself. I really really hope we can get them into The Bunker for one of those farewell shows…

This past weekend was the final curtain for Cornerstone Music Festival…

Above is a video I sleepily shot with a crappy point-and-shoot on the way home from Bushnell back in 2007. It was the last time I would ever make the 16hr drive home, but I didn’t know that at the time. I could’ve edited the video, cleaned it up, added clearer audio and at least adjusted the tilt…but I think it’s fitting to leave it the way it is.
That’s what Cstone was for me; a place where I could be myself, let down all guards, and not care for one week. This grainy video is a great representation of what the festival meant to me. With everything going on in life, there’s always time to stop and admire what God has given you…

On Saturday night my friend Tyler (from the band Kiros) posted these fitting words;
“Somewhere in the cornfields of central Illinois, an unfortunately final note is being sung…”

To commemorate the event I pooled together my favorite pictures of past years and created a photoalbum on Facebook [here]
I’ll be adding more as I find them. You can also checkout videos I shot of bands performances on my YouTube channel [here]

R.I.P. Cornerstone Music Festival

I’m sitting in my office, working on tonight’s Bible Study (at The Bunker) when in walks Larry, the Director of Altona’s YFC.
Amidst the conversation he drops the bomb on me; “did you hear that this years Cstone will be the last one ever?” I jumped on the website, read the news, and sank down in my chair…my happiest place on Earth will be no more…

If you don’t know what Cornerstone Fest is; it’s been the largest North American Christian Music Festival since 1984. Among it’s techno warehouse, art village, and hard hitting (world famous) speakers, it was THE place to see your favorite bands all on one stage.

Underoath, Norma Jean, Haste the Day, Means, NIV, David Crowder, P.O.D., and thousands more. Each year tens of thousands of people would cram onto the monstrous fair grounds for the week long event to mosh, dance, hug, sing, swim, share, and praise.

I was lucky enough to experience it for the first time as my highschool grad party, and continued to go for several years after. When I say that it was my happiest place on Earth I mean that, no where else that I’ve ever been to ever made me feel as happy as Cstone did. To me it was the best literal/physical translation of “Heaven on Earth”.

I’ll be posting pics from my visits on Fbook and I’d love it if those of you who have experienced it could share your thoughts/memories in a reply, reblog, or comment.
Below is the first video I ever posted online. It’s my friends in Means performing at the 2007 Cornerstone event.
