Exodus: Gods and Kings | Trailer 2

:: It’s another movie depicting a biblical story, so like, I should have an opinion on it right? Well…at least this one has a burning bush and some plagues. I’m just excited because it’s Ridley Scott (even though I wish he would’ve been putting this time into Prometheus 2) and Hollywood owes us something better than Noah…

PROMETHEUS: SPECIES ORIGINS
For those wondering how this movie fit into the ‘Alien’ franchise, where all those creatures came from, and what the heck was with those urns!I think the movie’s been out long enough for this to no longer be a spoiler.

PROMETHEUS [movie] Review
From the reviews that I’ve read, this was a reboot. From the friends that I talked to, this was a great prequel. After watching it myself, I tend to agree with the latter.
*SPOILER ALERT*
This is one of those movies that starts off with a question; a scene that makes no sense until the very end. It’s a beautiful prequel in that it acknowledges the movies to come, but doesn’t need them to tell it’s own story. It takes elements from the already existing “Alien” franchise, brings in some new ingredients, and mixes it together with this really weird sci-fi/supernatural vibe that only a few movies in history have been able to achieve. The big question - does it reveal the Aliens origins - YES. However it’s definitely not what you would think. In fact it focuses more on our own creation in order to reveal the creation of…well basically everything else. Once you’ve learned that, THEN you can understand how the perfect Xenomorphs came into existence. What does it add to the franchise - it takes the focus off of the Xenomorphs, and puts it onto this new “god” race of giant/white humans that have the ability to create random life. These giants travel throughout the universe setting up science stations. The experiment they conducted on Earth created humans, the experiment featured in this movie (on an unknown planet that Prometheus finds) creates what WILL become the famous Aliens. Long story short; it takes human + giant + this experiments DNA to make the Xeno’s…which would explain why they are nearly invincible! In short, they are saying there is no God, and we were all created “just because”. Creation makes creation makes creation makes creation…hence…Aliens.
Alien movies are notorious for leaving you with that unanswered question, what this one does is change the focus of that question. At the end of Prometheus, we’re shown the spaceship that starts “Alien1” and then told there is a fleet of them. So then, is what we see in A1 the ship from Prometheus, or is it another. And THEN does that leave room for an Aliens5 where the creators come back to finally wipe out the Xenomorphs???
What I liked most were the nods to the previous movies. The armor that the giants wear, the navigation seat on the alien spacecraft, the haunting mannerisms of the robot, but especially how they designed the new lifeforms. You can physically watch the progression of simple DNA to small creature, to face hugger, to embryo, to Xenomorph. I found nothing lacking in this film, so if you’re a fan of the franchise definitely check it out!

More Reboots+Sequels…Really?!!??

Today the Gawker network is pumped full of movie remake news, and as always the “new” movies coming out are nothing but reworked and rehashed counterparts to movies we know and love. Some are bad, some are good, and in my opinion all are unnecessary!

Clash of the Titans 2 is being set to release spring of 2012, in an attempt to snatch up Sam Worthington before he starts filming Avatar 2. Does Hollywood not realize that Clash is a remake of an already existing movie…a movie that doesn’t have a sequel to remake…and a first remake that didn’t even do that well with audiences?!!

Aliens, one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time, is getting 2 prequels added to its lineup. At least Ridley Scott is back on board to direct, but he released a statement saying he’s changing the iconic look of the Aliens. He wants to get away from the campy feel that the Alien vs Predator movies have created, and get back into a darker/creepier feel.

IMAX just signed a deal to shot 20 new movies through 2013 including Harry Potter, Superman, Batman, and Hobbit franchises. Nothing shocking here…just a lot more sequel/prequel/remake action going on.

Finally…our beloved Ninja Turtles are even getting a face lift…or botched face lift. I think the pic explains the new direction they want to go with the TMNT franchise, the question is…is it real or just a gimmick?  » full story
