REBOO - erm - ROBOCOP [trailer]

:: A remake we didn’t ask for, or maybe didn’t even know about! But it’s got Sammy Jackson…and I like that they start with the original suit and upgrade it WITH an explanation! Grrr part of me wishes this would’ve just been Robocop5 “the next generation” or something, but, I’m still stoked. The use of an allstar cast as supporting characters, and an unknown (at least to me) leading role, is awesome.

MAN OF STEEL [movie] Review
:: I’m really late on this (I saw it last weekend) but a few people asked for my opinion so here I go…I was a big fan of the originals, some of the first movies I ever saw, I even liked “Returns” if for nothing but it’s campy ‘saturday-morning’ vibe. However, this was due, and Snyder delivered. There are a few Directors out there that no matter what project they’re tied to, I’m sold. So when DC announced that they were eyeing Zack as the hopeful Godfather of everything tied to the Justice League, I got very excited for what MoS COULD be! Now, since eeeveryone should know Supe’s origins by now, I’m glad they took it in a different direction. By showing more of Krypton they opened up a side of Superman that the average movie-goer wouldn’t be aware of. I EVEN READ ONE COMMENT FROM A PERSON THAT DIDN’T KNOW HE WAS AN ALIEN!!! *phew* and the flashbacks were a nice touch. If anything it made me want to go and finally check out Smallville. So the story…was classic. Rebuild Krypton, put all of Earth in danger, all of which helps Clark Kent find out who he really is…perfect for the restart of a franchise. AND no Lex Luthor, again, excited. Lex has been done to death! It would’ve been like if Nolan opened the first Batman movie with Joker…predictable and boring. General Zod is one of those characters that again opens up the “alien” side of Superman, and shows us that there are others in the universe that can go toe-to-toe with the boy in blue. Overall: It felt like what the live-action Dragon Ball Z should have been. As a guy who grew up as a boy surrounded by superheroes, this was the kind of movie I wanted to see. It would have made me feel like maybe I could grow up to find out I had super powers. Not to mention it was amazing to see super-powered-beings doing so much damage to a city in the midst of a fight. Let’s get real; that’s how it would actually be! All these movies that depict the hero being able to protect EVERYone and EVERYthing are garbage.

Coffee & Multitasking v.119

1. MEGAN FOX IN TMNT [i09.com]
Yup, Bay and Fox are friends again, and surprise surprise she’s the lead female in his remake of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. While I’m not excited about the film, she is still a total babe. This gives my chance of watching it a +1

2. THE AMAZING GREEN GOBLIN [HollywoodReporter]
Mhmm…seems they haven’t learned from the emo-haired SpiderMan3.
Amazing SpiderMan 2 will now have THREE villains…possibly. While Dafoe will always be the perfect Goblin in my eyes, we now have Rhino, Electro, and Norman Osborn in the mix. Hopefully they’re just setting it up for another film…

3. ENDANGERED TV [IGN.com]
2013’s list of shows being canceled has been released, and I’m not overly shocked by it.
On the verge of cancellation are shows like: CSI:NY, Law&Order:SVU, 90210, Parks And Rec, and Community…which in my eyes died after Season3.
And ones that are definitely cut: The Office (finally), 30 Rock (duh), Last Resort, Fringe, and Gossip Girl.
But you can check out the full list of everything for yourself…

Coffee & Multitasking v.116

1. STARWARS STANDALONE FILMS [/Film]
Disney has confirmed that aside from the release of EpisodeVII they will release several movies based on solo characters, the first of which will be Yoda. If this is another “CloneWarsCGI” movie, I’m okay with it.

2. DIGIMON REBOOT [FilmThrasher.com]
Not only has Nickalodeon picked up the series, but this 6th season is being called a remake!

3. MAJOR MARVEL MOVIE SPOILERS!!!
News/rumors on the 3 wave of movies is already being released, which undoubtedly gives away plots to the 2nd wave which is only starting (w/ IronMan3) this year…watch at your own risk!!!

Coffee & Multitasking v.111

1. NEW HARRY POTTER MOVIE [SkyNews]
A new “mini” film was apparently filmed, and will be released in 2014!!!

2. SEINFELD MODERNIZED [Twitter]
The greatest sitcom of all time has been re-imagined for today’s audience…in the form of tweets! I love the internet :)

3. JUMANJI REMAKE [ScreenRant]
One of those 90’s movies that can be considered iconic, classic, a gem for the ages…is being rehashed for Hollywood…

Coffee & Multitasking v.108

COMICBOOK MOVIE EDITION:

1. JGL IN JLA [io9.com]
You know how movie rumors go, but it seems that enough credible sources are getting behind this story to make it legit…
Joseph Gordon Levitt (who played Robin in The Dark Knight Rises) will be the new Batman in DC’s upcoming Justice League movie!!!
This makes sense, with Chris Nolan moving from Bats to the Superman remake. Let the tie-in’s begin!

2. XMEN4 UPDATE [Twitter]
Bryan Singer is the new director of the X-Men franchise (the original, not the parallel ‘First Class’ series…) and tweeted today that Ian Mckellen and Patrick Stewart have signed on to reprise their roles as Magneto and Prof X. Even more exciting is that they’ve chosen to go the direction of “Days of Future Past” one of the most iconic comicbook storylines ever!

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THIS?
Is DC taking the Marvel route with their movies a good thing? Is continuing on with two X-Men movie franchises a smart move?

HALO 4 UPDATE: Mech Warriors!!!

Not only is this a sneak peak at the Valhalla remake “Ragnarok” we also get to see the new vehicles that look oooh sooo goood

DREDD 3D [movie] Review

For those of you that (still) don’t know anything about Judge Dredd, here’s a refresher…
It was a grim comicbook created in the 70’s, and if you Google it, you’ll find a lot of over the top and over exaggerated art detailing him as a rock-jawed dis-proportioned monster. In the 90’s Hollywood’s answer IRL was Sly Stallone, who did a bang up job of being “the law”. Jump ahead to the early 20teen’s where every movie wants to be the next “Dark Knight”, so they dirtied up an already filthy franchise.
The result; I suggest you look at this as being a prequel to the original Judge Dredd movie. This features a smaller (in build) and younger (looking) version of the hero, who you can tell is famous with his fellow Judges, but not yet famousenoughto be feared city-wide. This moviecouldbe the mission that makes him so well-known…who knows. The outfits aren’t as “futuristic”, but the tech is pretty close. It’s not the neon-drenched, stylistic dystopia, and that’s a good thing. Also note that in the 90’s version Dredd is near the end of his time, and is given the assignment of training new recruits in the school…not on the street.

That all being said, I was not expecting to love this as much as I did! The poptech soundtrack adds something to this brutally violent movie that most in the action genre are missing; the ability to take you out of your seat and give you more than just explosions. I got into it, really into it, and not just because Olivia Thirlby is a total babe! You can feel each gunshot, wince every time someone’s face explodes (and it happens a LOT), and I found my head bobbing to the beat of every “slow-mo” scene.
This will definitely be in my Top10 best movies of 2012!

Coffee & Multitasking v.103

1. OCCUPY TURNS 1 [LATimes]
The Occupy Wallstreet movement has hit their 1 Year Anniversary today! First; holy smokes they’ve been out there for a full year? Second; I had completely lost track of this like…6 months ago.

2. ROBOCOP REMAKE [IGN
It’s the first day of shooting for the 90’s action reboot…and there’s already a set-photo leak!

3. WiiU UPDATE [Nintendo Channel]
I missed out on this last week with all the Apple/Halo4 updates - but Nintedo released a slew of Wii U videos describing everything from release date and cost, to games like Bayonetta2 and ZombieU.

4. NEW MARVEL SUPERHERO [YouTube
Stan Lee has created an all new hero specifically for an upcoming iOS game! He looks like a mix of IronMan and Tron, a very trendy/popular/smart move on Marvels part.

TOTAL RECALL [remake] ReviewI’m very behind on my internetting this week! Okay, so, now that you’ve all had time to see this (and I mean…it’s been out since the 80’s right?) there’s no need for spoiler alerts is there? Except for the fact that this isn’t the movie I thought it was going to be so…SPOILER ALERT! The only thing that makes this movie “Total Recall” is the fact that they totally couldn’t recall anything from the original 80’s action flick starring Ahhhnold! The names are the same, and there’s a company called Recall that can give you memories…but that’s where the similarities end. There’s no Mars, no Kuatu, no tracer up the nose, no annoying taxi robots, no tunnel digging drills to impale Benny on…*phew*…it’s an entirely new movie. Agoodmovie, but just an average gun/babe-toting excuse to put a leading man on the screen. If they hadn’t tagged it as a remake this would box office flop (which it might be…is it?)
Wait til you have a lazy Sunday afternoon and watch it on Netflix.

Daily Thoughts…

want to get excited about the new “Amazing SpiderMan” movie, but just can’t.
You guys know how I feel about reboots and Hollywood relaunching a franchise. To me it feels petty, especially when it’s so close to the release of the last (original) movie (even though Spider-Man 3 was ridiculous…but that’s another post). It makes the whole thing seem forced, like a money grabbing triangle scheme.

Maybe I’m just holding onto boyhood sentiment. The 90’s Fox Kids Spidey cartoon is one of my all-time favorite shows. And I remember tossing my cookies when they announced a full length feature film! My highschool art class got the day off, and did a huge mural project in order to get an early screening at our local theater. My dreams were coming true! Sure Tobey Macquire isn’t the coolest, sexiest, or best actor…but he was real. That’s what I took away from the original Spider-Man trilogy; it took one of my fantasies and made it real.

This new, more extreme, version just seems like the boys at Marvel Sony want something to compete against The Dark Knight and Avengers (I bet they wish they would’ve released Peter Parker to THAT franchise :P). And that’s another thing; DC’s Batman reboot. I wasn’t even excited for “Batman Begins” when it came out…and didn’t even bother going to the theaters. I had had enough with “Batman & Robin” and just wanted them to give up. It wasn’t until my brother rented the DVD that I gave it a try…and I’m glad I did!

So, maybe that’s just it, maybe I just have to give it a try. There’s a part of me that is sad I missed opening night…but maybe I just want to get this anticipation out of my system. I so badly want to tear “Amazing Spidey” apart and have it fail so that I can curl back up with Sam Raimi. Oh well…I’m seeing it this weekend.

And besides, it broke box-office records with it’s midweek opening release…so that’s good. Right?

DREDD [movie] Trailer

I’ve been told this is a sequal/remake of the original Stallone film. It definitely looks like it could take place years after, with MegaCity1 looking even more piled on top of itself.

Oh, haven’t seen the original? Watch the full thing right here thanks to YT

Coffee & Multitasking v.98

1. IRONMAN3 MAAAJOR SPOILER [Geekster]
The next villain has been revealed! Do not click that link if you don’t like spoilers BUT I will say it’s worth it to check it out ;)

2. DOOM3 360 REMAKE [DreadCentral]
ID is teaming up with Bethesda to give their monster an HD overhaul! They’ve dubbed it the “BFG Edition”. I MIGHT trade-up my original copy…

3. DEATH BEFORE DARK SIDE [RedBubble]
One of my favorite artists; Alivia AKA nrrdcakke, has released the first of a two part StarWars themed print series. I’ve already ordered mine, get yours!

4. AWESOME IDEA OF THE DAY [LaughingSquid]
Wouldn’t it be great if there were gadget-charging-docking-stations on the side of the road? This should be a thing, right now!

THE HULK: From Comics to Movies
Who’s sick of studios constantly switching out actors in sequels? It takes away from the vibe and (for me at least) forces me to reissue myself into the universe the Director is trying to portray on screen. For example; Rhodey in IronMan1+2 are two completely different friends of Tony who just happen to have the same name…
The prime example of this is Bruce Banner/Hulk. Whatever your outlook on the three iterations are, they ARE connected…they have to be in order to make the Avengers movie work. The argument of sequel/reboot isn’t what’s important to me though, it’s the question “who fits the role better”.
Checkout the picture at the top, which is taken straight from the comics. You can see Bruce is a skinny, nerdy, pale skinned - whispy haired man who turns into a brawny (pulpy is the word I keep thinking) green monster.
Bruce: Just look at the faces. While Norton looks most like Banner, I think Bana fit the overall look and feel of the scientist. While Ruffalo doesn’t look anything like him…like…what were they thinking for the Avengers???Hulk: Take the head of #1 with the detail of #2 on the body of #3. I see that they were trying to put a bit of the actors into the monster with the CGI, but none of them came as close as the first. Also, “Incredible” was the only movie to really get the chaotic nature of him down.
In the end I think they need to just pick one and stick with it. I don’t care who, but continuity is key if they want the “Avengers” to be a lasting success. What are YOUR thoughts?
