MY [college] GRAD PARTY
or
THE FAIRLY ODD FOLK Return to The Bunker
Long story short, my school messed up on my invite to the banquet, so I decided to throw my own shindig for my family and friends. Luckily Lauren Mann & The Fairly Odd Folk were in town. Throw in a bunch of talented Manitoba musicians, and a ton of food, and you’ve got yourself a good ol’ time!
HUGE thanks to everyone that participated in the potluck; I wouldn’t have wanted to finish off the school year any other way :)
Dr Marchand and Myself at Grad [Prov 2012]
For those of you that have heard me talk about a man named Gord being the catalyst of my faith, this man would be the academic equivalent. He was the only professor to walk beside me through my three years of classes at Providence. At times I hated him for piling on so much work, while loving him for challenging me and pushing me to become something greater. He helped me achieve my best, while sticking around to put up with my worst. I told him I wouldn’t get emotional at the ceremony, but I’m okay with getting sappy in saying that God hooked me up with more than just a teacher.
Thanks Chris
THE COLLEGE CREW
(left to right)
Mr Sawaya “big pappa”
The dad of the group. Always happy, or filled with rage, both emotions are so similar you can’t tell the difference. He’s always been there when school was at it toughest.
Beargen “bff”
When I started college a lot of friends either dropped me from their lives or acted like I didn’t exist. He hiked up his big boy pants and quickly went from being a new friend to one of my favorite people.
Spencer “the cute one” (top)
Each year the role of 4th wheel to our vehicle of learning has been filled by a babyface who eventually leaves us for a girl. Honorable mention: McCaskell
Me “the _____” (fill in the blank)
I’ve had the honor of living with, studying with, and sharing this crucial part of my life with some of the most amazing people ever. But these men pictured above are what I’ll remember from my days in college.
For any of my Turner House mates; you should know that I almost dropped out my first year, but you men and women kept me motivated!
And for the lovely Screpnek family; allowing me to share your house with you was a heart warming experience. Thank you.
Just got out of my last class…
This marks three years of sitting in this room, listening to lectures, writing papers, embarrassing myself :P
I still have two exams to write, and need to receive marks back on a few assignments, but I’ve been doing really well all year and have received praise on several accounts from my prof…so I’m not worried. So yeah, I guess that’s it? I feel like I should be more excited, I mean it didn’t even hit me until dinner today. Maybe it’s because I’ve been ready to get out of here for months now. And with everything happening at The Bunker I haven’t been able to put any thought towards graduation. And ending with a Monday night class at 9:30 kinda puts the kibosh on any celebrations.
I spent my last day of classes drinking lots of coffeenog, nearly passing out mid lecture, and watching an impromptu presentation by Mr Greco about a University Professor turned comedian performing a piece on the Bible at an Apple Computers conference…if you’re not from Prov you don’t understand how perfect that whole scenario is. Great way to finish off.
It’s all kinda surreal, and impossible to sum up in one post. I’ll definitely have to stretch out my feelings over the next week. And I’m sure I’ll do something stupid when Grad actually comes around in the spring. For now, thanks, to any and all who have helped me get to this point. Another giant leap forward, only a few steps to go…
Vlog #24: It’s been Too Long
Sorry for not updating sooner, I really wanted to get something online as soon as I moved into the apartment (and will still show you guys around one day) life has just been crazy…but in a different way. School is good, work is good, my personal life has I guess finally been able to poke its head out.
Cheers to friends :)
