Introducing Q.U.B.E.
A downloadable Portal ripoff…*ahem*…puzzle game with a splice of science fiction. I’m in, I’m most definitely in! Where do I get my copy?
STEAM
Why you should be on it…
Steam, simply put, is a computer based gaming platform. Much like the App Store for iMac’s, think of it as a application that lets you purchase and download games online, then play at any time on your computer whether it’s PC/Mac online/offline.
Rather then giving you stats and specs I’ll just tell you why I think it’s so darn cool…
Valve: First and foremost Steam was created by, and caters mostly to, games from the company Valve (HalfLife, CounterStrike, etc) so fanboys start drooling!
Portal: When it first became available for Mac’s P1 was released for FREE :)
TeamFortress2: One of the funnest multiplayer, team-based, FPS’s out there, is available for FREE (forever) that alone should make you download it.
L4D1: Is pretty much free, basically anytime something new for #2 comes out they throw in a level from #1 for free.
L4D(2): Steam offers tons of new levels and maps that Xbox users will never see. Just released was a map that lets you run through a couple test chambers from Portal2, and I just downloaded a “City17” map that lets you run through a level from HalfLife2!
HalfLife: Every version of the game is available, which includes never released multiplayer-only levels!
Garry’s Mod: It’s a sandbox physics game, which means you can do whatever you want. Using characters, items, weapons, vehicles…nearly everything from every Valve game…to mess around and do whatever with. It may sound lame, until you can have Companion Cubes battling the Zombie Horde!
Other Games: Everything from Assassin’s Creed, to Braid, to Duke Nukem is available!
Sales: Every month they come up with some kind of themed-deal, giving them an excuse to drop prices on games (I picked up the Orange Box for $9)
So Steam is a free download, and you can for sure get one free game (TF2) which is worth checking it out right there. My username is “ihebb” of course :) lets shoot zombies together!
So I’ve made a decision…
I’m going to sell Fallout: New Vegas; it just doesn’t grip me like #3 did (which was one of my favorite Xbox games). The mixing of 50’s + western era just ends up leaving a bad taste in my mouth. That and, like I said in my first-impression, the main character lacks any story whatsoever. I gave up on the main questline almost immediately and tried exploring, but got bored with the lack of interesting places/people. Also, I hate having separate social-status in each town! I liked in #3 that you were either good or bad…simple. If you’d like to purchase New Vegas off me just leave a message [here]
That being said; I picked up Portal1 again, this time on Steam, and played through the whole thing this evening. Portal2 is currently downloading, so I’m pretty stoked! I can’t stand having to dodge all the convo’s around me about how great the sequel is! Portal1 was my game when the Orange Box came out…it’s time to reclaim my crown!
[steam]
*EDIT* The reason behind this pic post came with the news that Portal2 has been delayed until 2011. Seeing as how I didn’t even know it was slated for 2010 I didn’t feel important enough to write something out. However, apparently this is huge news in the nerd world, and every geeksite is jumping on the bandwagon as usual. So there ya go.
Portal is FREE!
Steam for Mac was released today, and you can download Portal for free until May 24th! Check it out.
