If you live in Winkler, MB and enjoy a good pedal…
The organization I work with (The Bunker) has teamed up with my friends cafe (Jonny’s Java) and a local business (Country Cycle) to start what we hope will become a great way to unite the community, promote healthy living, and endorse homegrown economy!
Starting this summer (most likely June) we will be hosting different weekly events for any/all cyclists. Your range, goal, and ability doesn’t matter; the idea being that you and a friend join up…meet new people…and pedal alongside others that are on the same level as you.
Right now it’s being put together mainly by myself and my friend Jeff (same name!) off the groups Facebook Page. So if you have any questions about dates, riding times, membership, etc. contact us individually or leave a comment on the Groups Wall.
Jonny’s Java: The First Store
Not a lot of JJ fans know that there have been previous “locations” where one could grab a cup (or bag) of bean and/or leaf water.
I remember, years ago, having to go directly to ol’ Jon’s house. His closet would be stocked high with bags of coffee beans that had been roasted in Winnipeg. After Andy joined the team they had a mini-kitchen setup in his basement, where my friends and I would often spend weekends watching movies and sampling different drinks.
The mall store marked several occasions; the “legitimacy” of the company, the fruition of a dream, and start of a town-wide movement. Since it’s opening I’ve had remarkable conversations with WinkCity dwellers whose idea of what the City should “be” have…grown up…would be the best way to describe it.
I’m making a big deal about it, because these are some of my oldest friends. And while this chapter of their lives has closed to focus on another, their success in it means a lot to me!

So I Got Rear Ended…
It’s boxing day, my friend Curb is out, we’re gonna enjoy some breakfast and pwn n00bs.
So we’re sitting in the McDonalds drive-thru when some idiot in a truck drives into me! We all hop out, he looks totally freaked. Luckily there’s only a small scratch in the bumper nothing major, but the guy’s passenger losses it and blurts out “we’ll pay ya $50”. I’m thinking “I don’t even care about this scratch!” but I want to get out the growing lineup so I agree and move on.
I drive up to the first window to pay for my food, but there’s no one there, so I pull up to the next. The lady says “you can’t pay at this window go back” which obviously I CAN’T so I go inside and make my way through the horde of people (who are now angry because they think I’m cutting in line). She hands me the food, apologizes, and states that the truck behind me paid for my food *ding*
So, I follow the rear ender to the nearest ATM…follow him inside…and he explains how he (the passenger) was showing the driver something on his phone, which caused him to not pay attention where he was driving. Idiots. He hands me the money and literally runs out the door. Ps: he handed me $60, not 50 haha.
Good ol’ Curby and I then went and bought Battlefield 3 and coffee. Food, coffee, and n00bs to pwn all for free…day = made.
The moral of the story is; if you live in Winkler chances are you’re an idiot behind the wheel.
The *NEW* Jonny’s Java [mainstreet] Location!!!
My friends (Buddy Jeff, Abomb, and JP) have taken their coffee business from it’s small starts in their basements, to now owning/operating TWO locations in the city of Winkler, MB. I am so proud of these guys, the new building is gor-gee-ous with a really clean yet strong feel to it.
Counters of solid-poured concrete, stabilized by massive chunks of raw wood. The mezzanine overlooking Main Street is surrounded by flat-black painted steel rails and girders, topped with a really gothic style chandelier. And yes there is an Apple Resale store attached…nothing but bonuses!
If you’re in southern Manitoba send me a message, I’d love to chat over a cup of JJ
“SPILLING THE BEANS”
I got the opportunity to spend the evening at a coffee tasting session held by Jonny’s Java in Winkler, MB. with my good buddy Beargen.
Such a fun night; sipping different brews, sniffing beans, deepfried cheesecake log desserts, and a very informative Q&A section. I think if anyone in the area is interested in learning not only more about coffee, but about JJ as a company and why they do what they do, you should definitely check it out.
Tonight we tackled Burundi; it was interesting to hear everyones different reactions to the blend. I found it at times very fruity and sweet, and other times it was like a head of lettuce smacking me in the taste buds.

We (the public/friends/family) myself included, have been waiting a looong time for this day! Honestly I was kind’ve hoping it would happen on a weekend so we could have a big opening day celebration (that I could be a part of hehe) but I understand how after so long the boys would wanna open now :)
Can’t wait to get home tomorrow and spend noon hour with a smoothie…or latte…or whatever blend they have brewing. Oh MAN home just got that much sweeter!
