So I deleted my DrawSomething…
It was fun while it lasted, but after getting the same picture time after time after time, and spending more time drawing on an App instead of in my sketchbook…I’ve decided to let it go.
Above are some of what I consider my “best” haha :P
MARVEL vs CAPCOM 2 iOS [videogame] Review
I really want to like this game…Cable, Wolverine, Ryu, Venom…all wrapped up in a fighting-game on my iPad; that’s a recipe for nerdy happiness! But for some reason Capcom decided to really cheap out on this App. The graphics have more pixels than on the original versions, the control response lags, the buttons are FAR to small onscreen, and even something as simple as the Menu looks like a cheap floppy disk game.
Granted I am still playing this on an iPad1, but that shouldn’t make a huge difference. I downloaded Sonic4 at the same time…and that game holds up beautifully. In the end, it’s nice to pick the game up again. Fans of the series won’t be mortified, but I could see newcomers getting frustrated.
Finally read X-Men: Age of Apocalypse…
It’s been on my must-read list for years now (and thanks to the Marvel iPad App I finally got the chance!) For those who don’t know anything about the series here’s the rundown:
Prof X gets killed by his son while saving Magneto. A time traveler named Bishop witnesses it and travels to the future to see the consequences. What he finds is that the original (and most powerful) mutant Apocalypse has taken over. The only countries left standing are the United States and Eurasia (what’s left of Europe and Asia). Magneto, grateful to Charles is leading the X-Men who have turned into harsh kill-or-be-killed heroes. Wolverine and JeanGrey and become rogue hitmen for the Council of Humanity, while X-Legends Cyclops and Beast have joined up with Mr Sinister (who has become one of the 4 Horseman). Bishop and Magneto teamup to go back and save Charles thus dissolving Apocalypses rule over…everything! Gambit, Jubilee, and Strong Guy head into space to find the M’kraan Crystal, the last of humanity uses the Sentinals to escape into space and look for a new planet, and Forge finds XMan; the only other mutant to ever rival Apocalypses power. X and Mags teamup in a final battle, while Wolverine and Cyclops duke it out. Colossus goes berserk and kills his wife Kitty Pryde while Beast escapes with Bishop into the past. In the end, Magneto rips Apocalypse in half right before nukes destroy the whole planet…oh yeah and he has a baby with Rogue which really pisses off Gambit. Back in the past Bishop fights himself to save Charles, thus saving the future, and Beast slips away (spoiler: he eventually shows up again to kill the original Beast).
Bishop is one of my favorite, if not thee favorite X-Men character! If you watch closely, most major events can be traced back to him somehow…but I guess that happens when you’re a time traveler who goes looking for trouble.
What should I read next? I was thinking of the Onslaught series…or maybe AvsX?
Introducing The “New iPad”
“We believe technology is at it’s very best when it’s invisible, when you’re conscious only of what you’re doing, not the device you’re doing it with.”
The New iPad (3/HD) [click]
From todays Keynote presentation…
News outlets are calling it the “HD iPad 3” while the site has simply dubbed it “the New iPad”. I’m calling it what it is; the iPad 2S hahaha!
It looks great though, and that’s the point, this isn’t an entirely new device it’s just an upgraded version.
OSX “Mountain Lion” [preview]
Apple’s operating system is getting another upgrade this summer, to 10.8!
You can watch this hands on video, but, here’s what I’m excited for…
iMessage: Now compatible across all Apple products, iOS+OSX
Reminders: I love it on the iPhone, and will love it on my iMac
GameCenter: The AppStore is great for gaming, but was missing the community that XboxLive offers…not anymore!

iBooks “Author”

Follow my Path!
As I typed that out I realized why they called it “path” duh…haha…genius.
If you’re not on Instagram, then you haven’t seen this mornings storm of Cover pics. And if you haven’t already thought; “great, another social network” chances are I want to high five you, AND, will see you in my feed shortly :)
Best way (I think) to summarize this new portable social network; they’ve taken the timeline feature boasted by Fbook (for their coming update) and miniaturized it. Add in the ability to post tweet like status’, music, and share photos, and you have something for iOS and Android users that Google+ and Facebook WISH they had thought of.
It’s clean, simple, and easy to use.
Path - Introducing Path 2 from Path on Vimeo.
I love how seamlessly they’ve integrated it into Twitter; no stupid platforms or need for links. However, I’d love to see the same thing for photos with Instagram before I make this my go-to source.

Minecraft on the iPad
Minecon 2011 is in full effect (I just read someone proposed at the event) and Mojang released a handheld version! It’s what you’d expect from a dumbed down version of such a massive game…
- there’s no actual mining or crafting
- you start off with all the supplies you’ll need/get
- i quickly found the edge of the world, which is an invisible wall that drops off into nothing
- there’s no day/night, enemies, or health/food bars
With all that taken away there are some definite positives to make up for it…
- to create a world with your friends you just need to be on the same network
- the controls are simple and practical
- it’s one of the best ways to kill time on an iOS device
Works for iPhone + iPad
$6.99 in App Store
if we’re friends IRL you should get it and help me create awesome stuff IRL!

THE “LATE” EDITION
Sorry, I’ve been busy with things like school, work, concerts, editing, Gears 3, and oh my gosh have you seen Terra Nova yet??! So…here’s my attempt to share what’s been in my browser this week.
SCIENCE:
Time Travel [telegraph.uk]
Seems that the good folks at CERN (makers of the Hadron Collider) have found a way to travel faster than the speed of light. Which means you’ll be able to wear your new BttF Nike “Mags” in your sweet time hopping Delorian!
Seeing Dreams [slatest.com]
Researchers at Berkeley have figured out how to recreate digital images mapped from the brain, in hopes of one day being able to turn dreams into video!
CULTURE:
Wall Street Occupation [dailywhat]
I don’t know the whole story, but I do know that when peaceful demonstrators are abused by corrupted cops, the story needs to be spread. Stay informed!
COMICS:
DC Comixxx [i09.com] [aishiteru]
Along with the reboot of their entire comicbook franchise came new beefed up version of men like Superman and Greenlantern, however, the women (like Catwoman and Starfire) were turned into sex-craved, half naked, straight up slutty versions of their former selves…and the geekdom is furious!
Walking Dead Teaser[i09.com]
A new photo gallery has gone up showing off all the lovely characters of Season 2.
TECH:
Kindle Tablet [gizmodo]
The new Kindle “Fire” is something that (imo) presents a decent rival for the iPad.
MY Essential iPad Apps
I’ve had my iPad for a solid year now, and my friend Carl just bought his, so I thought it’d be interesting to share what I believe to be the top Apps for my favorite Apple product.
PRODUCTIVITY
iWork: This includes Pages, Numbers, and Keynote ($9 each)
Moleskine: A really nice, clean, simple note-taking App for those who enjoy physically writing stuff out but want to use the iPad to save space. (free)
*I mostly use the pre-loaded Notes app for jotting things down, it has the great built-in feature of emailing your notes to you once you’ve finished writing to help you not forget.
Remote: An Apple sanctioned App that lets you control synced iTunes with your iPad. (free)
Nightstand: A great alarm clock, with tons of built in features. (free)
READING
Holy Bible HD: By far the easiest to use, clearest version, with great cross-version integration (free)
Kindle: Amazon has created a reading monster! The biggest library, and best friend to any college student - with most textbooks ranging in the $10 price range. (free)
*i also use iBooks, but it’s Canadian store is virtually empty
Flipboard: My favorite source for daily news. It takes websites, your Facebook newsfeed, and even Tweets, and organizes them in a neat magazine style layout. (was $9 - now free apparently)
Marvel: I used to be a huge comicbook junkie, and have picked up the habit again since downloading this app. With individual comics priced at $1.99 how can you go wrong!? (free)
*there is a DC app with same prices for fans of that universe
EDITING
PS Express: Made for the iPhone, but just as helpful for minor on-the-go photo edits. (free)
VIDEOS
Netflix: Get real, who doesn’t use this? (free)
Crackle: Like Nflix, but for those shows/movies that we loved and then forgot about (free)
Vimeo: Personally preferred over YouTube, but not as popular (free)
SOCIAL NETWORKING
MyPad: The best way to interact on Facebook with your iPad (free)
Checkin Map: Cause Foursquare is for chumps (free)
Google+: Very similar to the Fbook App, which in this case isn’t a bad thing (free)
IM+: Take your AIM, MSN, and Fbook/MySpace Chat and cram them all into one easy to use window (free)
*of course there’s the official Twitter and Tumblr apps that you should automatically have!
MUSIC
Beatwave: Touch the squares and music happens; more like a game a music making device (free)
Drum Kit: Mess around with a full set of drums ($1)
Classical: A classic guitar on your screen. Not the easiest to use, but fun to play around with (free)
GAMES
Angry Birds Seasons HD LITE: This version updates itself with the holidays…Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, etc. (free or $1.99 for full version)
Plants vs Zombies: My all time favorite iOS game ($3)
ZTP: Zombie vs redneck tower defence game (free)
NOVA 2: It’s the iOS answer to Halo ($7)
#sworcery: Has to be played to be understood…………. ($5)
X-MEN: The classic arcade multiplayer platformer, one of the best ($1)
E.Legacy: A great RPG for lovers of the PS1’s Final Fantasy series ($5)
SF IV: Street Fighter 4 in your hands, awesome! ($5)
The new family…
Picked up a used MacBook for dirt cheap today, finally something to do full editing at work (and play WoW on the go). Shortly after a good friend gave me his iPod Touch (1st gen) when he found out my iPod Nano had been stolen!
For those thinking it: Yes I do still use my iPad, fully, for everything from eBooks to writing weekly studies, to playing games. The iPhone4 is only loaded with communication apps, and the iPod is only for music.
I see this as an opportunity to use each device to it’s full potential with the Apps and programs they were designed for.
[post] E3 2011
This years GeekWeek was pretty epic! Micro$oft blew me away, Nintendo got me excited about my childhood favorites again, and Apple has me anticipating a very productive/fun school year.
So now that it’s all over, and we’ll be scrolling through page after page of updates on Kotaku and IGN, I figured I’d share what I’m most excited for this year in geekery!
FAVORITE KEYNOTE: Micro$oft
Not just for the oodles of content, or the grand slam finale, but for really utilizing the tech/games on that massive stage.
FAVORITE TRAILER: Halo 4
I mean c’mon, that was awesome.
FAVORITE UPGRADE: OS X Lion
I can’t wait to start multitasking between my iPad and iMac seamlessly.
FAVORITE TECH: Wii U
If you can purchase just the controller, I’m sold.
FAVORITE GAME: Gears of War 3
Halo would get this if it was coming out this year, and, GoW was the first series I got into on the 360…I’m very eager to finish the battle!
WHAT WERE YOUR FAVORITES?
