[my] SOUNDTRACK TO COLLEGE:
There are a lot of things that define chapters of our lives. What car we drove, the friends we have, a book we read, the style of clothes, and most certainly (and always) the music we listened to. No one can say “the 80’s” without thinking about those hair-flipping metal bands right? For me, college was a monumental time in my life where I experienced a great amount of change. Not only did I learn a lot about the history of religion and the inner workings of our society, I also spent a lot of time picking apart my own emotional attachment to different things. It was through all these changes that I needed a certain ambience…a vibe…an environment conducive to the kind of growth I needed.
As out of place as it may seem Kanye West’s “808’s & Heartbreak” created the perfect feeling to take me through the different emotions, and help provide the right feeling for keeping my mind focused on what was in front of me. Sitting in the library with a stack of books, being a hermit in my room writing papers, walking around campus, dealing with girlfriend issues, helping friends through struggles, creating art, or playing video games…the different tracks each provided unique ways for me to escape into seclusion.
It’d be hard for me to pinpoint a specific song that really stuck out. I think at times (depending on the situation) each one was in it’s own right my “favorite”. And while it may not be his most “Yeezy” album, to me it’s a perfect blend of the different sounds music can make.
If you haven’t you should check it out. As for myself, I’m on to new chapters and different albums…

JESUS FOLLOWER vs CHRISTIAN

A coworker shared this today; it combines my two favorite things (Jesus/Apple) to get a point across. There have always been those fanatics that feel they need to shout their message at you while cramming it down your throat. Unfortunately this gives people the wrong impression as to what Christianity is.
I’m a Christian, a follower of Jesus, but you will never see me picketing street corners or screaming at people that they are something horrible. We’re ALL screwed up and it’s only through LOVE that a message of truth can be properly conveyed. It’s then up to the individual whether they want to listen to that message or not…it’s not my ministry to make them listen. Just like everything else in life we’ve been given the power of free-will, the ability to make a choice.

APERTURE: PERPETUAL TESTING INITIATIVE

In case you missed it, Valve has decided to do something completely logical by opening the doors to Portal 2 and giving creative control of the testing chambers to YOU…us…me :)

Much like Halo’s “Forge” it looks like we’ll soon be able to create our own test chambers.
I love you Valve <3

Dr Marchand and Myself at Grad [Prov 2012]
For those of you that have heard me talk about a man named Gord being the catalyst of my faith, this man would be the academic equivalent. He was the only professor to walk beside me through my three years of classes at Providence. At times I hated him for piling on so much work, while loving him for challenging me and pushing me to become something greater. He helped me achieve my best, while sticking around to put up with my worst. I told him I wouldn’t get emotional at the ceremony, but I’m okay with getting sappy in saying that God hooked me up with more than just a teacher.
Thanks Chris

Crash Course World History #11: Christianity

From last weeks episode (April 5, 2012)
“In which John Green teaches you the history of Christianity, from the beginnings of Judaism and the development of monotheism, right up to Paul and how Christianity stormed the Roman Empire in just a few hundred years.”

This is not a theological debate!

If you’re into watching YouTube videos that teach you things in a fun manner then hop on board the subscribe train to DFTBAville! Seriously, if you don’t like learning why are you even here?

Is This Tumblr or MySpace?

There are a few things I don’t understand about this new generation of bloggers…

1. “Blogs” that only contain reblogged or retweeted photos, movies, etc….or to that affect…posts that get touched up and passed off as the re-poster’s original piece. I’m all for a good photoblog; something belonging to a photographer, graphic designer, or artist of some sort. Someone who just reblogs photos all day is not a “photoblog” you are a “reblogblog”. Granted, I sometimes like to mess around with photoshop or iMovie to tweak things I find. But more often than not my creations are in some form or another an expression of that medium, media, or the generation it’s affecting.

2. Follower trains or “add me” posts. If you want followers, produce content worthy of someones attention, and market it towards that demographic (whichever one you choose, ie. gamers, movie buffs, sports, etc.). Here’s a tiny history lesson on social networking for you n00bs; MySpace wasn’t the first on the scene, but they made it popular. Their downfall was for two reasons; over-advertising their users, and the downgrade of user content. When people started caring more about how many people were looking at them, than what those followers were actually lookingat, problems started. You see this everywhere nowadays, but most prevalent on sites like Tumblr or YouTube.

I love user generated content, and find it far more superior than something shoveled out by a corporation. It doesn’t happen often that I find someone that I think is a gem; they post not only flashy but also interesting things for me to learn and experience. What I hate on my newsfeeds; the same dang picture reblogged a hundred times by people who either don’t even know what they’re doing, or don’t care.
Let’s not be a generation of downgrading, let’s learn and grow together. We have this wonderful online tool to share nearly everything we can desire…take advantage of that!

*Pinterest is always an option for those saying “I use my blog to save things I find online” I’m not saying what you’re doing is wrong, I just think blogs trying to be taken seriously shouldn’t rely on others creations.

Another reason why Vimeo > YouTube
(but I will probably always be anchored to Google…)

If you feel like the only one.
If you feel like you’re on the outside.
I know there’s one who sees you so you don’t have to be afraid.
“The Promise” by MEANS
It is your hands that carried me
It is your voice that spoke of a love I never knew
It is your grace that fills me
It is your love that sustains if there is hope it is you.
“Heavy Hearts” by CLOSE YOUR EYES

Holy moly. We did it — at least for now. The House Judiciary Committee looked certain to vote for the Stop Online Piracy Act today.

Instead, because of the work of so many rank-and-file Internet users, the bill’s lead sponsor acknowledged that our concerns are legitimate, and adjourned the committee without holding a vote!

An email I received today from demandprogress.org
There’s still more to be done, next year the PROTECT IP act will be brought to congress.
