Finally finished BULLETSTORM [videogame] Review
Yeah yeah old game, I know, it’s been sitting in my pile for a while now and I never got around to checking it out. If you haven’t played it; it’s a highly amped up FPS version of Gears of War (from the same studio “Epic Games”). Bigger explosions, fouler language, gorier deaths, slower-motion, and tons battles where half the time I didn’t know what I was shooting at! I feel like they wanted this to be their next big thing after GoW, but it ended up being the slapstick that got smeared between #’s 2+3. They even used the same voice actors, character design, and sound effects. Bulletstorm is for FPS’s what Dodge is to trucks; big, loud, and douchey. That being said, the ending of the game sets it up for a sequel SO if they play their cards right I think they could tie this nicely into the universe of the COG’s and Lambent. Rent this; you can easily beat it in a day.

Introducing Q.U.B.E.

A downloadable Portal ripoff…*ahem*…puzzle game with a splice of science fiction. I’m in, I’m most definitely in! Where do I get my copy?

DEAD ISLAND [video game] Review
Coffee in one hand, controller in the other, it’s my day off…let’s slay some zombies! So, after sitting down with this game for a solid day, I’ve determined that it is one of the best games I’ve ever played. It’s right up there with Portal in being a game that all other developers should be paying attention to. Why? Because the developers of DI paid attention to other successful games and utilized what worked…
Style: From the words of my roommate upon first seeing the game “it has a Bioshock vibe”.Story: Think of L4D meets Lost; unknown zombie virus breaks out on an island that has secrets of its own…Characters: Very much ripped from L4D, with a little extra flavour. Four random people find they are immune to the virus so they teamup, however, DI adds the individual skill perks. Purna is the ‘Leader’; specialty in guns. Logan is the ‘Jack of all Trades’; speciality in throwing weapons. Sam is the ‘Tank’; specialty in blunt weapons. Xian is the ‘Assassin’; specialty in sharp weapons. For my first run through I chose Logan. Leveling: Adding the ability to gain experience points and level up in an FPS game is very Oblivion-like, and very fun.Talents: If you’ve ever played WoW you know what a talent-tree is, and DI has it. You have 3 choices; Fury, Combat, and Survival (I haven’t played around with mixing) but I chose Combat to beef up my weapons. Quests: The map/quest system is very similar to Far Cry or Oblivion. With tasks being divided into Main, Side, Continuous, and Finished sections. There’s also fast-travel locations throughout the island…but I prefer to cruise the streets mowing over the undead :PInventory: The loot system is identical to pretty much anything Bethesda has made (Fallout, Elder Scrolls, etc) Searching every bag, and cabinet for everything from baseball bats to duct tape, is essential for building a wicked arsenal. Enemies: Unlike past zombie greats, this game went for a more realistic feel. You have you basics like ‘walkers’ and the faster moving ‘infected’, and your bigger ‘thugs’ who were definitely football players before being bit. ‘Floaters’ and ‘suiciders’ are people whose bodies mutated horribly from the virus and contain corrosive slime instead of blood. A ‘butcher’ is much like L4D’s witch; fast moving, crazy, and scary. The ‘ram’ is what I’m afraid of; escaped mental patients in straight jackets who were bit…and now hunt you! Weapons: Again, going with realism, there wouldn’t be guns ‘n ammo lying around a beach resort. So instead you’re forced to rely in broomsticks, shovels, and the occasional knife. In my 8hrs of playing I only found 1 gun (and no ammo). But combining things you find, like a box of nails, gives you a killer nail-bat mace.
It’s a sandbox, fps, loot ‘n level, zombie game!!! My only dislike is that multiplayer is online-only. No splitscreen, however we’re going to experiment with LAN’ing 2 Xbox’s together.
