TIN TIN [movie] Review
For those of you who do not know who TinTin is OR have not delved into the legendary books/cartoon by Herge…do NOT see this movie!!!
It is extremely fast paced, starts off very slow, immediately becomes action packed, and explains nothing. For those that find themselves saying “it was nothing like the book” I doubt you’ll find yourself saying that with this movie. Keep in mind, this is based off of  “The Secret of the Unicorn”, not the first book in the series, so keep your eyes open for many tips of the hat to previous adventures. I can see why they would want to start with this one; it introduces Captain Haddock and sets itself up for the next book “Red Rackham’s Treasure”.
The antics are over the top, unbelievable, and spectacular to watch. The characters are lovably played by some amazing actors, who thankfully bring them to life in a way that made me feel like a kid again. And the plot, while thin for a mature viewer, is beautifully brought to life by the awesome team-up of Spielberg and Jackson.
This is a movie for the fans, so if you were, then go see it :)

“If you haven’t seen it yet” of the day…

(Official) Batman: The Dark Knight Rises [trailer]

And [here] is something for you Robin fans…

Coffee & Multitasking v.88

I’m thinking about making this just a weekly thing, more of a “highlights” thing y’know?
So much going on, don’t want to be overly exerting myself, and all that…

1. THRICE HIATUS [official]
They haven’t called it quits, just taking a break. They’ve been around since the (re)dawn of emo, as one of the pioneer bands for many of today’s awful music. Now that they have all families I think they deserve some time away.

2. DARK KNIGHT SNEAKPEAK [Collider]
On the cover of Empire mag this week. Batman’s got some weird flashlight, and Bane still has that stupid mask…yay?

3. NOTE TO OBAMA [DailyWhat]
A protester passed a note to the President today, demanding that he finally announce his stance on the whole Occupy movement. I really hope he takes it seriously!

4. DRIVE…THRU [FUNNYorDIE]
A hilarious parody of my favorite movie in 2011, must watch!

What are some stories that you’ve been following?

Coffee & Multitasking v.84

1. OCCUPY…EVERYTHING!
The Occupy Wallstreet movement is expanding. People of the world are realizing that things can’t stay the way they are. The rich can’t continue to rule us.
72 American cities are now involved [BuzzFeed]
Overseas, Britain has joined the movement [msnbc.com]
There’s even a scheduled rally where I live [OccupyWpg]
And whispers of another scheduled full blown riot in London…STAY INFORMED

2. THE AVENGERS TRAILER IS ONLINE [apple.com]
I’m speechless, and will obviously post it when I find an embed code.

3. DRAGON AGE EPI 1 [Machinima]
The first Episode of DA:Redemption (starring Felicia Day) is finally here!

Coffee & Multitasking v.83

THE “LATE” EDITION
Sorry, I’ve been busy with things like school, work, concerts, editing, Gears 3, and oh my gosh have you seen Terra Nova yet??! So…here’s my attempt to share what’s been in my browser this week.

SCIENCE:
Time Travel [telegraph.uk]

Seems that the good folks at CERN (makers of the Hadron Collider) have found a way to travel faster than the speed of light. Which means you’ll be able to wear your new BttF Nike “Mags” in your sweet time hopping Delorian!

Seeing Dreams [slatest.com]
Researchers at Berkeley have figured out how to recreate digital images mapped from the brain, in hopes of one day being able to turn dreams into video!

CULTURE:
Wall Street Occupation [dailywhat]

I don’t know the whole story, but I do know that when peaceful demonstrators are abused by corrupted cops, the story needs to be spread. Stay informed!

COMICS:
DC Comixxx [i09.com]
[aishiteru]
Along with the reboot of their entire comicbook franchise came new beefed up version of men like Superman and Greenlantern, however, the women (like Catwoman and Starfire) were turned into sex-craved, half naked, straight up slutty versions of their former selves…and the geekdom is furious!

Walking Dead Teaser[i09.com]
A new photo gallery has gone up showing off all the lovely characters of Season 2.

TECH:
Kindle Tablet [gizmodo]

The new Kindle “Fire” is something that (imo) presents a decent rival for the iPad.

Coffee & Multitasking v.82

1. R.I.P. BURGER KING [BuzzFeed]
They’re going for a healthier approach…

2. LEAKED AVENGERS FOOTAGE [geekster]
Someone from a Cleveland office filmed Thor and Cap USA fighting off a group of motion-capture suit enemies!

3. GAMESCOM 2011 [IGN.com]
There is a ton of video game news coming out of this years event!

Coffee & Multitasking v.81

BEHIND THE SCENES Edition

1. BATMAN 3 [mtv.com]
I gotta be honest with you internet…so far Nolan isn’t making me excited for this movie. The title is uninspired, Catwoman looks boring, I don’t like Bane in general as a character, and I just…can’t…figure out…the Batwing…

2. AVENGERS [ign.com]
Tons if pics have been leaked by, get this, a medical company whose office is right beside the set where most of the films shooting is taking place. Spies everywhere!

3. GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO [*pcb]
I love who they’ve chosen for nearly all these characters, and love that they brought back Stellan (who originally played Mikael - now played by Daniel) but oh my goodness gracious what have they done to Lisbeth!!???

4. TERRA NOVA [nymag.com]
My most anticipated show this season keeps getting better. Click the link to watch some behind the scenes interviews on how the village has been setup!

Comic Con 2011

It’s back, and it’s pumping out more nerdy excitement than ever…

[SpiderMan]
Here’s a juicy teaser of the new Peter P in full webs.

[Dark Knight Rising]
GJL himself posted the new Batman3 poster on his personal blog.

[the Hobbit]
There are tons of released pics and vlogs floating around the net…

[SCHEDULE]
i09’s take on what is the coolest stuff not to miss at this years event! Including panels and releases from Locke & Key, Marvel calling 2011 the “year of the X Men”, and Joss Whedon sitting down to discuss Buffy!!!

X-MEN:FIRST CLASS [movie] Review
*Spoiler Alert*
Thankfully all my previous thoughts on how awful this movie was going to be were smashed. It was a fantastic Marvel movie, that had a lot of X Men characters…I word it like that, because much like X Men 3 we’re given another movie that threw in as many mutants as possible, went horribly off course from the comics, changed characters entire life-stories, but delivered a very entertaining bit of comic-movie cinema. It definitely ranks up there with Iron Man and SpiderMan in my books, but still feels like it’s taking place in a different universe from #’s 1+2…which sucks because this is supposed to be a prequel, not a reboot. The cameo’s from Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) and Rebecca Romijn (original Mystique) definitely added to the overall story arch, added laughs, and made me feel more at home with the movie. But doing things like making Mystique and Prof X adopted bro ‘n sis were horrible ideas (much like NOT making Juggernaut and Prof X bro’s in #3). Oh and by the way, writers, killing one of the coolest new-mutants in the movie, really!?? I get that he can adapt to anything thereby making a battle irrelevant…but c’mon!  The fight sequences and use of mutant abilities were/was exactly what fans have been waiting for, and WERE’NT delivered with any of the previous “X” movies. The CGI was clean, smooth, and added rather than taking away. For example the whole submarine, battleship, beach scene…perfect! Something I found to be really beautiful was how Erik spent the whole movie trying to kill Shaw, only to reveal that he wants the exact same mutant vs man war, but kills him for the simplistic (if you can call it that) matter of Shaw murdering Eriks mother. Then, in a very epic sequence, picks up the helmet and truly becomes Magneto…
Definitely go see it, and don’t sit behind the dork with the huge head that I was stuck behind :P

It had to happen eventually…IDW Publishing is releasing a two-part graphic novel that follows Galvatron crash landing on an infested Earth. What ensues is an epic battle between the Autobots, Galv, and a horde of Las Vegas zombies!!!
Ps. Speaking of zombies I’m selling parts 1-4 of the Marvel Zombies graphic novel, message if interested.

R.I.P CHILDHOOD
There is just so much fail in nerdnews today! Not only were we all duped into believing that there were two more Matrix sequels on the way, then shortly after was the news that Avatar won’t be receiving a sequel for another four years…now comes two huge blows to the comicbook portion of my heart, and that’s a big portion.

2. R.I.P. Wizard MagazineWhen I was in JrHigh/HighSchool Wizard was my geek-bible. I bought every new issue, plastered my walls with the posters, and spent days pouring over the articles on my favorite heroes and their upcoming releases. Hopefully the rumor is true about them eventually switching over to an iPad format…» click here
