MARVEL HEROES: First Official Trailer

Finally something concrete on the upcoming Diablo-style MMO from my favorite comicbook franchise! At first I heard rumors that this would be a full open-world sandbox style MMORPG (in the shadow of WoW) but I think since the overrated success of StarWars:TOR studios are realizing it’s better to try something new rather than battle a giant.
Now I’ll have to quickly play through Ultimate Alliance 2 to get myself up to speed; it looks like this will be the same style of game, following the escapades of the Teseract…the powerful cube we’re introduced to from the movies. Cross-media storytelling is my favorite!

AVENGERS [movie] Review
*SPOILER ALERT*
This should have come out on Saturday (when I saw it) but I just moved and don’t have internet at home :/SO, after 5 years of hype…was it worth it?     YES!
Thank you Mr Whedon; thank you for appreciating the fact that regardless of how much Hollywood wants to make, WE the fanboys and geeks of the world have been waiting for this movie since we were children. If that didn’t make sense…the movie is good, great even. It’s far better than any of the Marvel movies leading up to it. Not that they were bad, but this is definitely the best portrayal of the characters themselves. For example; Thor felt a little too cheesy, and Hulk had just…so many problems. You can definitely tell that Whedon (a fan of comics and continuity) was able to force his hand on certain subjects pertaining to the geekiness of this flick. Overall the flow of the film was perfect, going from realization and introduction to formation and problem solving smoothly while keeping me entertained.
DID YOU WATCH TIL THE END OF BOTH CREDITS???Who was the purple guy smiling at at the end: His name is Thanos, and he’s the baddest of the bad in the Marvel universe. What does this mean for the Avenger movies…that they’re only going to get bigger, and possibly involve some crossovers! Also the Shwarma scene at the very very end: perfect!
This movie had the right amount of humor, action, suspense, drama, and that awkward tension between main characters that only Whedon seems to be able to create.
Do you need to see previous Marvel movies before this? Yes.
My favorite scene? The NY final battle! When I was a child I dreamed of what it would be like to see my favorite comic heroes in real life, and this delivered that beautifully. I was in awe when Cap started barking orders to Hawkeye and IronMan. My childhood was pleased.
My thoughts on the villains? I hate Loki, he’s friggin annoying. But that’s perfect when dealing with a storyline like this, so it works. However I really hope they use the pure brutality of Thanos to deliver an enemy who can put up a fight in then next movie.
My favorite hero? It ended up being Thor, and that surprised me! Iron Man was my favorite character in the solo movies, and Captain America was my favorite film out of the bunch, but Thor delivered a really strong character to the Avengers story. 2nd place goes to Black Widow…Scar Jo will always have a place in my heart ;) haha
I could go on and on, so leave your thoughts in comments/replies/messages so we can keep the conversation going!

THE HULK: From Comics to Movies
Who’s sick of studios constantly switching out actors in sequels? It takes away from the vibe and (for me at least) forces me to reissue myself into the universe the Director is trying to portray on screen. For example; Rhodey in IronMan1+2 are two completely different friends of Tony who just happen to have the same name…
The prime example of this is Bruce Banner/Hulk. Whatever your outlook on the three iterations are, they ARE connected…they have to be in order to make the Avengers movie work. The argument of sequel/reboot isn’t what’s important to me though, it’s the question “who fits the role better”.
Checkout the picture at the top, which is taken straight from the comics. You can see Bruce is a skinny, nerdy, pale skinned - whispy haired man who turns into a brawny (pulpy is the word I keep thinking) green monster.
Bruce: Just look at the faces. While Norton looks most like Banner, I think Bana fit the overall look and feel of the scientist. While Ruffalo doesn’t look anything like him…like…what were they thinking for the Avengers???Hulk: Take the head of #1 with the detail of #2 on the body of #3. I see that they were trying to put a bit of the actors into the monster with the CGI, but none of them came as close as the first. Also, “Incredible” was the only movie to really get the chaotic nature of him down.
In the end I think they need to just pick one and stick with it. I don’t care who, but continuity is key if they want the “Avengers” to be a lasting success. What are YOUR thoughts?

Finally read X-Men: Age of Apocalypse…
It’s been on my must-read list for years now (and thanks to the Marvel iPad App I finally got the chance!) For those who don’t know anything about the series here’s the rundown:
Prof X gets killed by his son while saving Magneto. A time traveler named Bishop witnesses it and travels to the future to see the consequences. What he finds is that the original (and most powerful) mutant Apocalypse has taken over. The only countries left standing are the United States and Eurasia (what’s left of Europe and Asia). Magneto, grateful to Charles is leading the X-Men who have turned into harsh kill-or-be-killed heroes. Wolverine and JeanGrey and become rogue hitmen for the Council of Humanity, while X-Legends Cyclops and Beast have joined up with Mr Sinister (who has become one of the 4 Horseman). Bishop and Magneto teamup to go back and save Charles thus dissolving Apocalypses rule over…everything! Gambit, Jubilee, and Strong Guy head into space to find the M’kraan Crystal, the last of humanity uses the Sentinals to escape into space and look for a new planet, and Forge finds XMan; the only other mutant to ever rival Apocalypses power. X and Mags teamup in a final battle, while Wolverine and Cyclops duke it out. Colossus goes berserk and kills his wife Kitty Pryde while Beast escapes with Bishop into the past. In the end, Magneto rips Apocalypse in half right before nukes destroy the whole planet…oh yeah and he has a baby with Rogue which really pisses off Gambit. Back in the past Bishop fights himself to save Charles, thus saving the future, and Beast slips away (spoiler: he eventually shows up again to kill the original Beast).
Bishop is one of my favorite, if not thee favorite X-Men character! If you watch closely, most major events can be traced back to him somehow…but I guess that happens when you’re a time traveler who goes looking for trouble. What should I read next? I was thinking of the Onslaught series…or maybe AvsX?

THE WALKING DEAD: SEASON 2 Finale [tv] Review
***SPOILER ALERT***
I’ve held off on posting anything about this seasons antics, mostly because I wasn’t able to watch any episodes the night of (always having to resort to sharing sites the next day). Then mid-season came a sudden wave of popularity, followed inevitably by n00bs posting spoilers all over their friggin Fbook feeds. I think the biggest disappointment for me this season wasn’t Dale’s death, but the mass amount of times I was asked the question “bro have you watched Season1 of WalkingDead on Netflix yet?” Now, the happiest moment by far was Shane’s death, which is odd because in S1 he was one of my fav characters. It took a lot for me to finally turn and accept the fact that his survival instincts were over the line. In the end, after the much needed wave of zombies, I feel like stopping at the farm was a waste of time. They ended up right back at the freeway with LESS people in their party than before (not to mention several friends turning against each other in the process). And now, with Rick revealing his two major secrets, it looked like the group was ready to give up on him! I couldn’t believe what I was seeing…I will stand by this Ricktatorship. Not having read the books (but having heard a lot about a prison) I’m very excited to see how this changes the group, and what adventures Andrea will end up on with this hooded zombie slicer!
What are YOUR thoughts on tonight’s episode?

THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN [trailer]

At midnight lastnight, Marvel released their official full-length trailer for the new Spidey reboot.
I WANT to like this movie. The story looks great, I like that their using Dr Conner’s as the villain we love him to be. The cast looks great, though I still think Emma would be the PERFECT Mary Jane! The spidey suit still looks stupid, and now seeing the mechanical webshooters I totally understand why Raimi went with organics in the originals.
I’ll see it, but I still think this is Marvel’s attempt to compensate for the popularity of DC’s “Dark Knight” reboot.

Finally had a day off to work on some designs…
I was asked to do the cover art for a local bands album, and a friends business is looking to make some sweet hoodies! Sooo after I was done I had some spare time to ink a personal project I’ve been meaning to finish :)
