AVENGERS [movie] Review
*SPOILER ALERT*
This should have come out on Saturday (when I saw it) but I just moved and don’t have internet at home :/SO, after 5 years of hype…was it worth it?     YES!
Thank you Mr Whedon; thank you for appreciating the fact that regardless of how much Hollywood wants to make, WE the fanboys and geeks of the world have been waiting for this movie since we were children. If that didn’t make sense…the movie is good, great even. It’s far better than any of the Marvel movies leading up to it. Not that they were bad, but this is definitely the best portrayal of the characters themselves. For example; Thor felt a little too cheesy, and Hulk had just…so many problems. You can definitely tell that Whedon (a fan of comics and continuity) was able to force his hand on certain subjects pertaining to the geekiness of this flick. Overall the flow of the film was perfect, going from realization and introduction to formation and problem solving smoothly while keeping me entertained.
DID YOU WATCH TIL THE END OF BOTH CREDITS???Who was the purple guy smiling at at the end: His name is Thanos, and he’s the baddest of the bad in the Marvel universe. What does this mean for the Avenger movies…that they’re only going to get bigger, and possibly involve some crossovers! Also the Shwarma scene at the very very end: perfect!
This movie had the right amount of humor, action, suspense, drama, and that awkward tension between main characters that only Whedon seems to be able to create.
Do you need to see previous Marvel movies before this? Yes.
My favorite scene? The NY final battle! When I was a child I dreamed of what it would be like to see my favorite comic heroes in real life, and this delivered that beautifully. I was in awe when Cap started barking orders to Hawkeye and IronMan. My childhood was pleased.
My thoughts on the villains? I hate Loki, he’s friggin annoying. But that’s perfect when dealing with a storyline like this, so it works. However I really hope they use the pure brutality of Thanos to deliver an enemy who can put up a fight in then next movie.
My favorite hero? It ended up being Thor, and that surprised me! Iron Man was my favorite character in the solo movies, and Captain America was my favorite film out of the bunch, but Thor delivered a really strong character to the Avengers story. 2nd place goes to Black Widow…Scar Jo will always have a place in my heart ;) haha
I could go on and on, so leave your thoughts in comments/replies/messages so we can keep the conversation going!

PROMETHEUS [trailer] #2
Our first glimpse of possible enemies suggests that Aliens will make an appearance!

…and because some still haven’t seen it…

AVENGERS [trailer] #2
First aired two weeks ago, but friiick if I’m not the most excited for it!

My holiday art project…
Aside from inking my friends longboard, and (still) trying to come up with decent album artwork for a local band, I worked on this sketch of Captain America from the “Marvel Zombies” graphic novel series.
I opted for pencil crayons because I left my paints back home (I was house sitting for my parents). The Instagram filter makes it look grainier than it is, oh well, I like it!

Finally had a day off to work on some designs…
I was asked to do the cover art for a local bands album, and a friends business is looking to make some sweet hoodies! Sooo after I was done I had some spare time to ink a personal project I’ve been meaning to finish :)

THE AVENGERS [trailer] First Official

Well that was fast!
The soundtrack…perfect
Shots of entire streets blowing up…perfect
The epic closeups of our heroes dawning their weapons…perfect
Not knowing exactly what the plot is…good I guess but it’s driving me crazy! I mean what the heck is Loki up to, how could that one guy take on the Avengers?
And that final scene with Banner and Stark is so “oh hey we know this is the third guy to play the Hulk and you probably don’t know who he is, so here is a little banter to help catch you up”

Coffee & Multitasking v.84

3. GAMESCOM 2011 [IGN.com]
There is a ton of video game news coming out of this years event!

COMIC CON 2011 Rewind

I had to miss out on all the fun pouring out of SDCC’11 because of work, but, I’ve gone back and reviewed all my nerdy feeds…here are the three things that really stuck out to me…

1. THE WALKING DEAD Promo [ew]
They really went all out for promoting Season2, some of the coolest ads I’ve ever seen!
Besides Terra Nova, this is the only show I’m looking forward to this year.

2. THE AVENGERS..FINALLY [teaser] [screenshots]
At the end of Captain America, and all over everyones ‘must see’ lists at CC, was the first official trailer for Marvels goliath-movie-blockbuster.
I have to admit, I’m fanboy-ing, however this will have to be one HECK of a movie!

3. AMAZING SPIDER TRAILER [ign]
IGN did what they do best, and filmed a “Rewind Theater” where they tear apart the new Spidey trailer frame by frame. I have to admit, with their insight into what could happen with this franchise, I’m a little more optimistic. However I still think this is an ill-conceived money making scheme that should not have received as much attention as it did at the Con.

CAPTAIN AMERICA [movie] Review
This should have been the first of the “Avengers” setup movies (before Iron Man 1). It didn’t feel like filler material *cough*Thor*cough* but wasn’t quite as “epic” as Iron Man. It did however have the perfect blend of comedy and action, which is such a lost art in comic movies these days.Sidenote: The trailer for “the Amazing SpiderMan” before CapUSA…still not stoked…it’s like Marvel is just trying to compensate for Nolan’s “Dark Knight” /rant.Even though I doubted him Chris Evans played Steve Rogers brilliantly; I believed that he was a small guy just trying to prove himself. Even has a buffed up super soldier he kept that composure of a guy who had it rough. The CGI was impressive, with that soft ’50s style of fuzzing the edges giving it that classic noir look. Again, unlike Thor, I didn’t feel like I was watching something that was TOO far fetched - comic yet real (much like Iron Man & the original SpiderMan’s). It was nice/weird to see Cap using guns, stabbing, and shredding guys in propeller blades :S maybe I’m just not familiar enough with his character but I wasn’t expecting it! And the end sequence, with the plane…and then after the credits…!!!! PERFECT
My favorite Marvel movie? No.My favorite Avenger movie? No.One of my favorite comic-book movies? Yes! SEE IT :)

Coffee & Multitasking v.58

SUPERBOWL MADNESS EDITION!!!
The game panned out exactly how I thought it would; my friends and I ate a ton of food, the Black Eyed Pea’s were horrible…horrible…*shudder*…the commercials were huge, oh yeah and some guys played football. Kidding! GO PACKERS!!!
This year though most people seem to be fixated on the trailers, so lets break ‘em down…

1. SUPER 8
The new sci-fi thriller from JJ Abrams + Steven Spielberg is…wait…those two names alone means I don’t have to justify how awesome this movie will be.

2. TRANSFORMERS 3: DARK OF THE MOON
This sans-Megan Fox trailer has actually restored my faith in the idea that a decent Transformer movie can be made. It actually looks like we’re finally going to see the robot vs robot vs human war that we’ve been begging for!

3. CAPTAIN AMERICA
Even though I still don’t like what I’ve seen of this movie so far, I have to admit seeing Red Skulls face, and those war sequences, has my nerd-radar beeping…

4. THOR
This movie will end up like Punisher; fun the first time, but quickly forgotten.

5. TERRA NOVA
This new time-traveling, dino-fighting series by Spielberg looks promising enough to become my new obsession :P

What were YOUR favorite commercials???

REAL or FAKE
This photo is being circulated around the web today. It’s a promo for the new X-Men movie (obviously) however many, if not most, are saying it’s shopped. While geek giants like i09 are stating that it’s real…what do YOU think?
Either way, this IS the real cast, and their characters are as follows (left to right):Michael Fassbender (Magneto) Rose Byrne (Moira MacTaggert) January Jones (Emma Frost) Jason Flemyng (Azazel) Nicholas Hoult (Beast) Lucas Till (Havok) Zoe Kravitz (Angel) Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique) and James McAvoy (Professor Charles Xavier)
My 2 cents; Just like I said in my previous Spider-Man post… Marvel is getting further and further away from what makes their comics great (which is continuity) in a weak attempt to measure up to the “gritty realism” that DC has displayed with it’s new Batman series. Why is Angel, a male character who wasn’t “birthed” until the 3rd movie, now in the prequel…and a girl??!!! Why is Havok there, but no Cyclops? How are we supposed to take Betty Draper seriously as Emma Frost :P
To stoke the fire here is another costume shot from the upcoming Captain America movie…everyone loves it…I think putting the Human Torch in red, white, and blue is a joke.» click here
