Another day full of movie news…

1. WOLVERINE 2
First he announced the title; [The Wolverine] and now director Aronofsky has backed out of the project, leaving it in limbo. [full story]
Lemme just say that I still think giving Hugh Jackman his own movie to play with the character is the right move. It lets Wolvie break free of the babysitting gig he got stuck with in the X-Men films. 

2. SUPERMAN REBOOT
Director Zack Snyder announced that his new movie about “the man of steel” will not have anything to do with previous films. Stating that he wants to completely redo the superhero in movies. [full story]
I stopped caring about Superman after the originals, and even though I liked “Returns” I just don’t see Supe’s as being a movie-hero.

3. UNDERWORLD 4
The first photos of Kate Beckinsale on-set have been released…stoked! [photos]

4. R.I.P. MICHAEL GOUGH
Dead at the age of 94, Gough was best known as the original Alfred from Tim Burtons “Batman” films. [full story] 
Though Nolan’s Alfred is funnier, Gough brought more class to the story.

It’s rumored that Joseph Gordon Levitt (Tommy from 3rd Rock, or the “nerdy” guy from Inception) will be playing The Riddler in Nolan’s next comic adaptation. In my books, the only villain/actor teamup that could come after Ledgers amazing Joker performance.

More Reboots+Sequels…Really?!!??

Today the Gawker network is pumped full of movie remake news, and as always the “new” movies coming out are nothing but reworked and rehashed counterparts to movies we know and love. Some are bad, some are good, and in my opinion all are unnecessary! 

Clash of the Titans 2 is being set to release spring of 2012, in an attempt to snatch up Sam Worthington before he starts filming Avatar 2. Does Hollywood not realize that Clash is a remake of an already existing movie…a movie that doesn’t have a sequel to remake…and a first remake that didn’t even do that well with audiences?!!

Aliens, one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time, is getting 2 prequels added to its lineup. At least Ridley Scott is back on board to direct, but he released a statement saying he’s changing the iconic look of the Aliens. He wants to get away from the campy feel that the Alien vs Predator movies have created, and get back into a darker/creepier feel.

IMAX just signed a deal to shot 20 new movies through 2013 including Harry Potter, Superman, Batman, and Hobbit franchises. Nothing shocking here…just a lot more sequel/prequel/remake action going on.

Sad day in Nerd News?

1. Chris Nolan hints that he might not come back for Batman 3! Before you freak out IGN has already compiled a list of directors that would be suitable replacements (it calmed me down…a bit)

2. Heroes is in more trouble! Remember how Season1 was AMAZING, then the show was…well…not as good for a while. But then for the last bit of last season it was AMAZING again?? Well you pretty much have one man to thank for that; head writer Bryan Fuller (who left for seasons 2+3 hence the not as goodness). Well, now he is gone for good…can the show take it?
