The client wanted “hula dancing Stormtroopers” so I figured I’d do a design mixing elements of The Empire and Hawaii.
(he really wanted to ride the board, so color might be added later…)
So I deleted my DrawSomething…
It was fun while it lasted, but after getting the same picture time after time after time, and spending more time drawing on an App instead of in my sketchbook…I’ve decided to let it go.
Above are some of what I consider my “best” haha :P
So this happened yesterday…

Today I experimented with some shading on this sketch of my friend Alexandra’s boston terrier. I personally love this and am really proud of myself. To me it looks like something that should be on the cover of an ADTR cover haha definitely can’t wait to try this out on something else.

Lastnight while watching (a very hilarious) SNL, I decided to update some drawings.
The skull is from a skatemag, I just wanted to see if I could do it.
Late Christmas present…
I ordered some flash-style paintings by Chad Urich (former frontman of Venia) for my roommate as a Christmas gift. Not only did CxU throw in an extra print, but he included copies *we both win*
Longboard artwork for a friend…
- Oriental/surfer vibe…since it’s the closest he’ll get to shredding waves in the prairies.
- “Death Before Decaf” in banners…he runs a coffee shop.
- Had to go with a different wood-finish that caused the ink to bleed slightly :(
- Kept a simple black line artwork instead of color because I really like the woodgrain, and wanted to keep that as the focus of the board.
In the end he gave me free reign to challenge myself with something new. I’m not happy the ink bled, but what’s done is done. Myself and the customer are both happy with the design…and that’s what matters!
